I Want to Know What Kind of Car You Drive. Really, I do.

I want to know what kind of car you drive. I want to know what you do for work? I want to know what you had for breakfast? Why, you ask?I don’t really care if you drive a BMW or a Honda, I do care about the driving position and how it relates to your back pain. I want to know what you do for work, not because I care about how much you make but because I want to know, do you sit, stand, bend over, use your body symmetrically or asymmetrically. I want to know what you had for breakfast not because I judge you for eating doughnuts and pastries but because it helps me understand, how are you fueling your day and what reserves do you have for healing.

Understanding how you use your body helps me understand how to treat your chronic pain with Acupuncture.

I ask a lot of questions. I ask about how you commute, do you drive a car or take transit? What do you do at work?  Do you sit? Do you stand? What do you do after work? What kind of movement do you do? Do weekends look different than weekdays? Is the pain worse or better after movement? Is it worse or better when you first wake up? Does your arm only hurt when you do hammer curls or does it also hurt when you do standard bicep curls? How much are you hydrating?Acupuncture is a medicine of tendencies not absolutes. The subtle nuances provided to me through your answers give me information about your condition and it’s tendencies. Not all back pain is the same. If it was it would be an absolute. Sometimes back pain is related to a past injury, sometimes there’s no history of an injury. All of this is relevant for me as a practitioner.  Understanding how you use your body at work, at home, out on the ball field, or while throwing clay on a potter’s wheel, helps me develop a treatment plan unique to you.I can’t do that in a 5-minute conversation. At Ronald Pratt Acupuncture, I spend an hour with every new patient before we even start to develop a treatment plan.Want to know about how I work, let’s chat.  Click here to sign up for a free phone consultation.
